Oncology Patient Housing
UCHealth in Southern Colorado provides oncology treatment; radiation, chemotherapy, and surgical intervention to patients throughout Colorado and surrounding states. Often the best, and most effective, course of treatment requires the patient to visit our facilities multiple times a week making travel back-and-forth extremely difficult or impossible. In addition, many hotels or rentals in the Colorado Springs area are cost-prohibitive to many patients, and create a significant barrier to care.
We believe that no patient should have to choose between their health and their finances. Made possible through philanthropic contributions to the Foundation, we currently offer low or no-cost housing to patients in need while they receive treatment at our facilities in Southern Colorado.

The Thomas House
In 2023, a local non-profit, The Thomas House reached out to the Foundation. They had long supported the oncology patients of UCHealth by providing housing during treatment in honor of Bill Thomas. In 2007, Cheri Orange established the non-profit and with the help of the board, neighbors of the units, and philanthropic individuals provided temporary housing for patients seeking treatment at UCHealth for over 15 years. Time had come to pass the torch to ensure sustainability of this resource for future patients, and the Thomas House gifted the Foundation nearly $200,000 in assets to continue this legacy. The two units on E. St. Vrain remain move-in-ready spaces for patients to stay while undergoing treatment at low or no-cost in honor of this legacy.
Future Housing
UCHealth in Southern Colorado serves patients and families throughout the state and surrounding states and recognizes the need for lodging for many of these patients and their families. While we currently only have two units available for oncology patients, we will continue to search for creative opportunities for all our patients.
